Configuring Windows Mail for your POP3 email

These screen shots were taken under Windows Vista 64 with Windows Mail 6.0

  1. Open Windows Mail
  2. From the "Tools" menu, choose "Accounts..."

  3. In the Internet Accounts window click on "Add..."
  4. Select "E-mail Account" from the pop-up window.

  5. Click next. This will begin the wizard.
  6. When prompted for a Display name, type in your name or your company name, then click next.

  7. Type in the "E-mail address" which we have allocated to you.
    For example: info@yourcompanyname.co.uk
  8. Click next.
  9. Choose "POP3" for your Incoming e-mail server type.
  10. Your Incoming mail server is "pop.webspacemedia.co.uk".
    Your Outgoing e-mail server is "smtp.webspacemedia.co.uk".

  11. Do NOT tick the "requires authentication" option.
     
    Customers using a Wanadoo/Freeserve internet account MUST set their outgoing mail server to "smtp.freeserve.com". All other SMTP servers are blocked by this Internet Service Provider.
  12. Click next to continue.

  13. Your account name is usually your full email address.
    Your password is as supplied by us.

  14. Make sure the "Remember password" option is ticked (checkbox)
  15. Click next.
  16. Click on finish.

  17. You will now be back in the "Internet Accounts" section. Highlight the account you have just set up, and click on properties.

  18. With the Properties window open, select the servers tab.
  19. Tick the option labelled "My server requires authentication" (checkbox).

    Customers using an AOL internet account must also do the following:

    Select the advanced tab, and change the number next to "Outgoing mail (SMTP)" from 25 to 587

     The default port number 25 is filtered by AOL, and may cause your outgoing emails to be blocked!

  20. Click ok.
  21. Click close.

You are now ready to send and receive email from your account.
